Ighalo also emerged as the highest goal scorer during the qualifiers for the same competition. With both feats, we can say he has chosen the best time to announce his retirement from the Super Eagles.

There have been lots of discussions that have trailed his decisions to quit the National team at this stage of his career considering the fact that he is just still close to his thirties.  Some fans of the Super Eagles believe he will soon reverse his decision to quit the National team.

However, if Odion Jude Ighalo decides to stick to his decision to quit the Super Eagles of Nigeria, I believe we have enough good options to fill this position conveniently and comfortably.

Now let us look at the 3 players that can conveniently hold the number 9 position of the Super Eagles.

Apart from scoring the goal, his overall performance in the match was commendable as he showed some flashes of what the late Super Eagles legend, Rasheed Yekini use to give the fans of the Super eagles.

Though, Onuachu could not really display the same level of performance at the 2019 Afcon tournament in Egypt, he still remains a force to be reckoned with in the Super Eagles. Odion Ighalo stole the show at the tournament reducing Ounachu to one or two matches.

3 Super Eagles Strikers: Victor Oshimen

Victor Oshimen has grown in leaps and bounds since he won both the golden boot and also the world cup with the Nigerian Golden Eaglet at the world under 17 Championship.

He has proven his mettle with some of the clubs he has played for since then. The latest being the 20 goals he scored for Charleroi fc in the last football season in Belgium.

His goals also helped the Nigerian Dream team to qualify for the African Under 23 Championship.

Though, he could not really do much at the last Afcon tournament because he did not really play many matches, he is one Nigeria can look forward to in the striking position for the Super Eagles.

3 Super Eagles Strikers; Taiwo Awoniyi

Taiwo Micheal Awoniyi is a Nigerian professional footballer who plays as a forward for English Premier League club Liverpool. Taiwo’s style of play has been compared to that of Rashidi Yekini, Nigeria’s all-time highest goal scorer.

He also gave a good account of himself for the Nigerian Golden Eaglet when they won the Under 17 world cup. He has also played for both the Under 20 and the Under 23 National teams of Nigeria.

He signed for Liverpool after his heroics at the under 17 world cup but has been loaned out severally to different clubs to gain experience and also because of work permit issues.

The 21-year-old Nigeria youth international has gone for a sixth loan spell away from Merseyside. He has signed for Bundesliga side Mainz on a season-long loan.

Taiwo Awoniyi spent last season on loan at Belgian side Royal Excel Mouscron.

Despite the many loan spells outside Liverpool, there is no doubting the fact that Awoniyi has the striking talent to lead the Nigerian line. His development has not been what many of his fans expected but he can still overcome the challenges and become a super hit for the super Eagles.
